Once I heard ALLISPORTS/Dew Tour was hosting a "skate only" event in Boston that would not only serve as a Dew Tour stop but also name a World Champion in Vert and Street I knew that Grind for Life had to be part of this historical weekend! Last time a Pro Vert event was held in Boston was I believe in 1997 and Grind for Life’s Board Member Andy Macdonald won it!….this had the makings of a great weekend!
If you have never been to Boston (or New England in general) you need to go so much great history surrounds you in an amazing City filled with great people! Let me site an example of Boston Hospitality. A few months back GFL received an email from a Bar owner named Peter Fiumara II from Good Life Bar saying he had seen Mike on Fuel TV’s Daily Habit and if we were ever in Boston he would like to help out…well Peter I thought it just so happens a huge skate event is coming to town so it was time to throw a party!..and that’s exactly what we did. With 2 weeks notice and an idea to support the very athletes that constantly support GFL we linked up with Dew Tour Matador and the Good Life and threw an outstanding party for the sponsors athletes and public alike….I know you are thinking "what’s so hard about that" right? Well upon arrival at the Good Life at 1pm on the day of the party the place was a construction zone that appeared to have no chance of resembling a bar in 8 hours! The owners and staff covered in sweat sawdust and paint assured me that by 9pm the place would be jumping….well it was …all three bars..DJ’s and an amazing staff ready to go at 9pm! The first thing to be hung on the renovated bar walls was a Grind for Life deck signed by Mike Rogers (good karma indeed).. Even a torrential rainstorm could not keep the place from being packed right up to closing at 2am…amazing is all I can say! Good Life is awesome and if you ever hit Boston you must go! (www.goodlifebar.com) ..Tell em’ Grind for Life sent ya!
Day one in Boston =Huge Success!
Now it was time for Mike and Jill to work their on-sight mojo at the Festival Village at the TD North Garden (Boston Garden home of the Celtics baby!)
And work it they did! I truly enjoy meeting the people that come to the booth its especially inspiring when you see a young person grasp what is going on and gets to meet Mike and see that helping people is "cool". The Dew Tour events are great and we feel very honored to take part and show our support of Action Sports while we continue to spread the word about Grind for Life! Many thanks to all the folks at ALLI check them out at www.allisports.com
The event wrapped up with a terrific Vert final with Bucky Lasek taking the win PLG in second and of course Andy Macdonald getting 3rd in his home town was icing on the cake! In fact everyone skated incredibly!
Grind for Life made many new friends and raised over $2000 in donations so we can continue to help people with Cancer! So many thanks to all of Boston’s finest folks Dew Tour Good Life MATADOR Snacks Andy Macdonald and of course all the Dew Tour Athletes and Sponsors for making it all possible. Boston + Grind for Life = Awesome!
